Bird Watching:

Because of the abundance of House Sparrows, Clark's Nutcrackers, Black-capped, Boreal and Mountain Chickadees, and occasional Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches, occasional raptors such as the Pygmy Owl and Sharp-shinned Hawk remain all winter in the townsite area. These are most readily found by checking power lines and tree tops. Dippers winter at Bow Falls.

Banff Upper Hot Springs:

The Banff Upper Hot Springs  is located on Sulphur Mountain – about a 10 minute drive across Banff from the hotel.  The views are spectacular as you soak away the day in the large outdoor pool.  Price is approx $7.30 per adult – they are open until 10 p.m. 

Cross Country Skiing:

Cross-country skiing is a wonderful way to enjoy Banff National Park in winter. Draped in snow and ice, the Rockies form a dramatic backdrop to the pleasures of travelling over crisp snow. The ski season on valley bottom trails generally extends from December to March. Trail maps & conditions

Enjoy the spectacular scenery and spot wildlife on your own schedule with GyPSy Guide an in-car self directed tour experience.  GyPSy Guide plays interesting and entertaining commentary and stories automatically as you approach interesting places.

Entertainment:

There are many ways to entertain you in Banff.  Lux Cinema in downtown Banff is where you can catch up on your favorite Hollywood Block buster.  Wild Bill’s Saloon on main street – Karaoke on Tuesdays.  Wild Bills, Brunos and other smaller venues often have live music, sporting events as well so ask at the Front Desk or pick up the local Rocky Mountain Outlook or Crag & Canyon Banff newspapers.

Gondola: 

Take in outstanding 360 degree views from 7486ft (2281m) at the Banff Gondola . There are hiking trails and observation decks at the summit for maximum viewing pleasure.  Approximately $28 per adult. (open year round) 

Icewalks: 

Enjoy the beauty of frozen cascades at Johnston’s Canyon only a 20 minute drive from the Juniper.  A trailed walkway is open year round and good grip footwear is a must have.  Guided Icewalk Tours offer different areas, time of day and include snow-cleats for easy walking. 

Photography: 

Early and late in the day is usually the best time for photography and nature watching. Please treat the landscape and its inhabitants with respect; stay on established trails to avoid trampling vegetation and always give wildlife plenty of space. 

Shopping: 

Looking for that perfect gift?  Find unique gifts, artwork, crafts and souvenirs in the many shops of downtown Banff.  Often shop owners will be discounting merchandise after the peak summer months.  Visit the Christmas Store on Main Street for Christmas gifts and Banff-themed ornaments.

Sled Dog Tours: 

Take to the trails with a team of Canadian Rockies “powder hounds” for an exhilarating tour.  Sled Dog Tours are two hours in length and based in Canmore. 

Sleigh Rides: 

A sleigh ride with family and friends adds the perfect “western touch” to your winter holiday. Depending on snow conditions, sleigh rides run in Banff and Lake Louise from November to early April.  

Skiing & Riding:

Enjoy three ski resorts with the Juniper’s multi-resort single day lift ticket.  Choose to ski or ride at Sunshine, Lake Louise or Banff Mt Norquay . Ski rentals can also be coordinated through the Front Desk and will be brought directly to the hotel.  The Juniper offers ski packages and ski storage. 

Snowshoeing:

Whether you're interested in taking a short, leisurely stroll around the town of Banff or accessing remote locations in the backcountry, there are many opportunities to enjoy snowshoeing in Banff National Park.  Snowshoeing trails

Snow Tubing: 

New this year, Mount Norquay offers lift access and four fantastic lanes of snow tubing.  Two hour passes available - adult price $17, child $15, family $48 and group rates available. 

Sightseeing: 

There are many places to see and photographs to be taken right in Banff town site.
Bow Falls: Ice and water crashes over ancient limestone creating a spectacle of sound and sight.
Banff Springs Hotel: The Castle of the Rockies
Cave and Basin: The birthplace of Canada's national parks.
Surprise Corner: A higher view of Bow Falls and the majestic Banff Springs Hotel.
Lake Minnewanka:  Large man-made lake, big horn sheep frequent this area 

Skating: 

Skating is sublime in Banff National Park.  Choose from natural ice skating either at Vermilion Lakes, Bow River or Chateau Lake Louise.  Outdoor pond at Banff Springs is an option as well as indoors at the Banff Recreation Centre.  Rent skates in downtown Banff.  

Winter Hiking:

National Park winter hikes in the area include Fenland Trail (a short hike), Cave and Basin Loop, Sundance Canyon, Stewart Canyon, and Stoney Woman Mountain. 

What to Bring: 

Bring your bathing suit, warm jackets and sweaters for layering, good walking boots & your camera!
