There are many hotel accommodations to choose from in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada in the winter time.  However, few hotels offer an onsite walking trail with interpretive displays, outdoor hot tub, stunning mountain views, year round ski packages, special rates and fine dining.

Bird Watching:

Because of the abundance of House Sparrows, Clark's Nutcrackers, Black-capped, Boreal and Mountain Chickadees, and occasional Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches, occasional raptors such as the Pygmy Owl and Sharp-shinned Hawk remain all winter in the Rocky Mountain town site area. These are most readily found by checking power lines and tree tops. Dippers winter at Bow Falls.

Banff Upper Hot Springs:

The Banff Upper Hot Springs  is located on Sulphur Mountain – about a 10 minute drive across Banff from the hotel.  The views are spectacular as you soak away the day in the large outdoor pool.  Price is approx $7.30 per adult – they are open until 10 p.m.

Cross Country Skiing:

Cross-country skiing is a wonderful way to enjoy Banff National Park in winter. Draped in snow and ice, the Canadian Rockies form a dramatic backdrop to the pleasures of travelling over crisp snow. Gondola: 

Take in outstanding 360 degree views from 7486ft (2281m) at the Banff Gondola . There are hiking trails and observation decks at the summit for maximum viewing pleasure.  Approximately $28 per adult. (open year round)

Enjoy the beauty of frozen cascades at Johnston’s Canyon only a 20 minute drive from your Juniper accommodation. A trailed walkway is open year round and good grip footwear is a must have. Photography: 

Early and late in the day is usually the best time for photography and nature watching. Please treat the landscape and its inhabitants with respect; stay on established trails to avoid trampling vegetation and always give wildlife plenty of space..

Looking for that perfect gift?  Find unique gifts, artwork, crafts and souvenirs in the many shops of downtown Banff.  Often shop owners will be discounting merchandise after the peak summer months.  Visit the Christmas Store on Main Street for Christmas gift packages and Banff-themed ornaments.

Sled Dog Tours: 

Take to the trails with a team of Canadian Rockies “powder hounds” for an exhilarating tour.  Sled Dog Tours are two hours in length and based in Canmore.

Sleigh Rides: 

A sleigh ride with family and friends adds the perfect “western touch” to your winter holiday. Depending on snow conditions, sleigh rides run in Banff and Lake Louise from November to early April.
